US Census Looking for Workers;
Local Ocean County Office is Planned
TOMS RIVER -- Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari, who is U.S. Census liaison for the county, has encouraged Ocean County
residents to apply for U.S. Census Jobs that will be opening in the area.
“Some people are confused because most of the information is coming from the Census Bureau operating out of the
Philadelphia Region office which is the permanent location for this area, but there will be local jobs most likely
headquartered in the Toms River vicinity and involving various sections of Ocean County,” Vicari said.
Successful applicants may have to commute to other parts of the state for training or until the local Census office
opens.
Vicari said that the Census is currently testing for their field representative position which has a range starting at
$11.34 an hour at the entry level and goes to $18.48 depending on experience of the candidate and their ability to pass
a screening written test. The jobs frequently are full time once the Census is up and running, but they can be part-time
or on demand as needed and may require weekend and evening work. They terminate when the Census wrap-up is completed.
“Working for the Census may help some folks getting through the challenging economic times we are facing,” Vicari said.
He added, “Jobs may not be immediately available, so if anyone is even thinking of wanting a job at some time in
the future, they should start the application process now.”
The Census office is accepting applications from Ocean County are this time according to their postings. For more
