RECRUITS GRADUATE FROM POLICE ACADEMY

LAKEWOOD – The recruits of the Ocean County Police Academy’s Basic Police Training Class #90 and Special Law Enforcement Officers Class II #23 and #22 celebrated the completion of their training in graduation ceremonies on May 22.

“Graduating from the Police Academy is an outstanding achievement these recruits should be proud of,” said Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari. “These men and women are embarking on a lifetime of serving for the good of the public and for that, we are grateful. We are proud to call them Ocean County’s newest law enforcement officers.”

Both ceremonies took place at Georgian Court University, here, with Classes #90 and #23 at 10 a.m. followed by Class #22 at 2 p.m. The guest speaker for both graduation ceremonies was Chief Thomas Conroy from the Stafford Township Police Department.

“Hard work and dedication has brought these new officers to this important milestone in their lives,” said Freeholder John P. Kelly, who serves as Director of Law and Public Safety. “We congratulate them on this accomplishment and wish them well as they begin working for their respective communities.”

Fifteen members of Class #90 completed the academy training, including 8 recruits graduating as Sheriff’s Officers while another fifty-seven recruits in the SLEO II Classes graduated.

“Completing this academy is not easy. For months these recruits have been tested mentally and physically but have continued to remain motivated throughout the training,” said Ocean County Sheriff William L. Polhemus. “Now all their hard work has paid off.”

Two special presentations were made during the first ceremony. Jennifer L. Sutton, Brick Township Police Department, was the recipient of the James J. Tracey Leadership Award sponsored by the Ocean County Emerald Society. Daniel V. Leonard, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, received the George Haines Award in a special presentation by the 200 Club, a private citizens group formed to provide assistance to the families of police, fire, first aid personnel and state police in Ocean County who lost their lives or were seriously injured in the line of duty.

Recipients of the Basic Police Training Class awards were: Melissa R. Flynn, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, High Academic Award; Patrick P. Cervenak, Manchester Police Department, High Physical Fitness Award; Ryan K. Uzunis, Milltown Police Department, High Marksmanship Award.

The Basic Police Training Class #90 graduates and their respective police departments are: Kevin O. Aurin, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department; John K. Bennett, Christine A. Casullo, Melissa R. Flynn, Keith J. Hardie, Gennaro P. Molino, Brooke A. Olejarz, Matthew J. Scutti, Adam J. Wright, all of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.

Also, Patrick P. Cervenak, Manchester Township Police Department; John D. Gordon, Joseph T. Pacitti, Jennifer L. Sutton, all of Brick Township Police Department; Ryan K. Uzunis, Milltown Police Department and Paul R. Vereb, Long Beach Township Police Department.

Awards in the SLEO II Class went to the following: William J. Cox, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, High Academic Award; Daniel V. Leonard, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, High Overall Award; Joseph B. Keane, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, High Physical Fitness Award; Kyle M. Jones, Ship Bottom Police Department, High Marksmanship Award and Distinguished Expert Perfect Score Award; Joseph C. Falkiewicz, Little Egg Harbor Police Department, Police Training Commission Merit Award; Iain D. James, Lakehurst Police Department, High Academic Award; Kale D. Mabey, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, High Physical Fitness Award; Michael A. Hannemann, Seaside Heights Police Department, High Marksmanship Award.

The SLEO II Class graduates and their respective police departments are: Joseph P. Boehler, James A. Lemmo, Kevin M. Snow, Stephen G. Solovey III, all of Beach Haven Police Department; Timothy E.
