NEW TRAFFIC SIGNALS COMING TO PLUMSTED, JACKSON AND LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIPS; DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS SLATED FOR 2009
THREE NEW TRAFFIC signals will be installed at intersections in Plumsted, Jackson and Lakewood townships in early
2009.
A new signal will be built at Monmouth and Hornerstown roads (County routes 537 and 539) in Plumsted prior to a
planned widening of the intersection later next year.
“We want to have the new signals in place prior to beginning the larger construction project,” said Freeholder
John P. Kelly, liaison to the Ocean County Engineer’s Office. “We’ll relocate the posts to accommodate the additional
lanes that are planned for the intersection.”
In Jackson Township, a new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Route 571 and Route 526, just
east of the Jackson Outlet mall.
The final portion of the contract calls for a new signal at Cross and James streets in Lakewood Township.
All three traffic signals are expected to be completed in early 2009.
The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders is expected to seek bids for the estimated $575,000 project at its
regular meeting on December 17.
The Freeholders will also advertise for bids on an estimated $325,000 project to improve drainage at four
locations around the county.
The locations include:
- Bayshore Drive, Barnegat Township
- Drum Point Road, Brick Township
- Bryant Road, Waretown
- Brook Street, Stafford Township.
“This contract is part of our ongoing effort to improve safety and help keep pooling water off of our roadways,”
said Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari.
